January Vehicle Spotlight: 2021 Explorer
Primed for exploration and loaded with helpful features, the 2021 Explorer is the ultimate adventure buddy and master of the day-to-day. The new Explorer is designed to make the most of any situation, whether you’re on an adventure or running errands.
The newest Explorer’s power and driving control comes wrapped in an eye-catching design that boasts authentic comfort and style. Because it was designed with the adventurer in mind, you can bet the interior can accommodate the kids, the dog, the sports equipment, camping gear, and anything else you may need.
Looking for great performance with the looks to match? One of the most notable features of the Explorer is its dynamic design, including signature LED headlamps and other powerful exterior details. The interior was crafted with defining features like the available Tri-Diamond perforated leather seating (Platinum only), an available hexagon carbon-fibre-lined dash (ST) and a precision-engineered centre console and rotary gear shift dial across the entire lineup.
Stay fresh on long drives with the help of a revitalizing interior. The multicontour front row seats with Active Motion Massage offer an added dose of comfort with five massage themes for an isolated back massage focusing on either the upper or lower back. Have the available third-row Powerfold seats up and accommodate up to seven passengers or fold them down and make more room for cargo.
Experience connectivity at your fingertips with the available 10.1” LCD Capacitive Portrait Touchscreen. Use it like a smartphone to find directions, play music, connect with friends and so much more. Plus, with a 12.3” customizable cluster (standard on Platinum and ST) you can configure the look and function of your driving display.
In an increasingly crowded and stressful world, we could all use more confidence on the road. The 2021 Explorer comes standard with Co-Pilot 360 and includes:
- BLIS (Blind Spot Information System)
- Rear View Camera
- Lane-Keeping System
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Auto High-Beam Headlamps
Harness the tools for seamless adventure in the 2021 Explorer. Sit back and relax with the help of innovative technology and stay connected with features like SYNC 3 and an in-vehicle WiFi hotspot. Keep your phone on standby with the available wireless charging pad while you enjoy some time away in your personal sanctuary.
Stay connected from just about anywhere with the help of Ford + Alexa and take the amazing capabilities of Amazon Alexa from your home to the road. Download the Ford + Alexa app to your smartphone, connect to SYNC 3 via AppLink and have immediate access to voice navigation, traffic information, Amazon Prime shopping, and more! You can even control your supported smart-home devices while you keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
Looking for an SUV that adapts? The Explorer is for you.
Pack it all in, there’s no need to make cargo sacrifices because the Explorer delivers when you need configurable cargo space. When the second-and third-row seats are upright you have maximum seating plus enough space to haul the essentials. If you need more room there’s up to 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row. The adaptable E-Z Entry second-row makes for easy entrances and exits, even with a car seat in place. There’s no need to get out and assist, your rear-seat passengers can configure their seating arrangement with the pull of a lever.
See it all with the available 360-degree camera with split-view display. It uses four-cameras (one in the grille, liftgate and under each of the sideview mirrors), enabling you to see all sides of the vehicle on the 10.1” centre screen. This feature is especially useful when maneuvering in tight spaces or on trails.
When you have to get things done, the Explorer has your back and is always ready for the road ahead.
The 10-speed transmission means moving between speeds is more efficient and ensures smooth upshifts and downshifts. Compared to a 6-speed, the 10-speed delivers improved overall performance and boasts enhanced acceleration at the power band’s low-and mid-ranges.
Building on that, the Explorer comes equipped with rear-wheel drive to maximize performance and design. RWD enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on-and-off-road capability and an increase in max towing capacity by 600 pounds (when equipped with Class 3 Trailer Tow Package).
For additional traction, there’s available Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System and seven selectable drive modes, accessed through the easy-to-use dial in the centre console. Normal, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, Tow/Haul and Eco mode each come with 3D animated graphics in the available 12.3” digital cluster.
You’ve read about a few of the Explorer’s awesome features, but nothing compares to getting behind the wheel and hitting the road.
