The days of cars belching smoke are mostly long gone when you’re driving in Brandon and Portage la Prairie. Improved automotive engineering has made vehicles that are cleaner to drive, creating less smog and pollution. Emissions testing has also helped improve air quality. What is an emissions test? It’s a check to ensure that your vehicle isn’t emitting too many pollutants like hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, oxygen, and oxides of nitrogen, which are all found in vehicle exhaust. Some provinces and states have vehicle emissions test requirements. Vehicles in those areas must meet specific emissions standards before they can be registered.
The service department at Capital Ford Winnipeg conducts plenty of vehicle safety inspections, and our certified technicians are happy to answer your questions like:

If you live in Dauphin, Winnipeg, or anywhere else in Manitoba, you do not need to have an emissions test. So, you don’t need to worry about how long an emissions test takes or how much an emissions test costs.
In order to properly register your vehicle in Manitoba, it needs an inspection to ensure that it’s safe and sound by standards from theVehicle Equipment, Safety and Inspection Regulation. You only need this inspection when acquiring a car or moving a car into the province. The inspection must be performed at an approved inspection facility like the Capital Ford Winnipeg service department. These are some of the systems that must pass inspection for a vehicle to be street-legal:
When a car passes the inspection the owner is issued a Certificate of Inspection that will serve as proof of the passed inspection for registration.
Sometimes vehicles will receive the Certificate of Inspection with Advisement. This means that all systems are working but some will need repair or replacement soon. And, yes, some vehicles will fail the inspection and require repairs before being inspected again.
You might notice that engine and transmission parts are not listed for inspection. While not legally required, it’s recommended that you have these components inspected annually, too.
While Manitoba used to set the safety testing price at $55, pricing is now at the discretion of the inspection facility.
